This is a brief report of the projects undertaken in the year ended 31st march 2008. It is the charity’s first year working in Zimbabwe. We look forward to the coming year and the work, with your help and support we will be able to do. School Fees.St James Primary School, Zongoro in the Mutasa District In April 2007 we started to fund 100 children at the school. In January 2008 this number rose to 210 children. This is over a quarter of the children attending the school. There are just under 800 children at the school. Domborutinhira Primary School in the Mutasa District In September 2007 we started funding 100 at the school. In January 2008 this number rose to 150 children. Beulah Heights Secondary School In January 2008 we started paying fees for 39 students at the newly opened school. There are 70 children in the first intake to that newschool Educational ResourcesSt Francis Primary School Pre-school Unit. Newengo, Mutasa District. The unit had 100 children but no toys and very limited resources. Funds were provided during the year for books, paper and other resources identified by the school. In addition educational toys were purchased in the UK and shipped to the school. The number of children has increased as parents and carers want their children to play with toys. The number of children has increased as parents and carers want their children to play with toys. | Bere Primary School About 400 text books and teachers books were funded for the school. The text books were for a variety of subjects including RE, science, maths, English and the local language Shona. Beulah Heights Secondary School, Mutare. This new school was given funding for textbooks and other resources needed to open the school in January 2008. Building work St Francis Primary School Pre-school Unit. Newengo, Mutasa District. The first project was to provide funding for piped water to the preschool unit and to build a toilet block for the unit. Previously the 100 pre-schoolers shared with the 900 plus primary school children on the same site. St Gabriel’s Secondary School. Mutasa District. This is a new school being built some 12 kilometres from the nearest secondary school. It is saving children walks of that distance or more to and from school. The collapse of the economy in Zimbabwe resulted in the school having a classroom block which had no roof. The charity was able to fund the cost of putting a roof on the two classrooms concerned.
Shalom Secondary School, Harare. An initial grant of £1000 to fund a community poultry project at the proposed site of this school has been agreed but due to economic and other problems in Zimbabwe, work as been delayed. Currently the money is still in the charity’s accounts awaiting the start of the project. The project will, once started, be self funding. Profits from the project will be used to develop the school which is adjacent to a high density housing development on the outskirts of Harare. | ||

There are with all charities some expenses incurred. All Administration and Governance cost have bee covered by kind donations specifically for that purpose. The total governance costs (registration of the charity etc.) were £53.49. Other administration costs including the purchase of a banner (6’ x 2’) were £130.19. Had this been part of the expenditure of the charity from funds raised it would have been the equivalent of 1% The charity can therefore state that all funds donated for projects in Africa will indeed be used solely for that Building on success - Making a difference |
